Requirements for Importing Zinc Oxide Concentrates into China

Zinc oxide concentrates are mixed materials containing primarily zinc oxide, obtained by pyrometallurgical volatilization enrichment of zinc-containing materials. These materials include low-grade zinc ores, electric arc furnace dust, blast furnace dust, and waste residues from zinc electroplating. The rotary kiln enrichment process involves mixing zinc-containing materials with anthracite, feeding them into a rotary kiln, and reacting at 1100°C. Zinc compounds in the raw materials are reduced to metallic zinc, which volatilizes as vapor. At the end of the rotary kiln, the vapor oxidizes into zinc oxide and zinc ferrite oxides, with impurities such as carbon black. The cooled and collected product typically contains 40%-70% zinc oxide.

According to the standard “Zinc Oxide Concentrates for Zinc Smelting” (YS/T 1343-2019), zinc oxide concentrates used in zinc smelting are classified into three grades based on the ZnO content: ZnO50, ZnO60, and ZnO70.

The main technical requirements are as follows:

Production Process
The zinc oxide concentrate must be produced through pyrometallurgical volatilization and enrichment of zinc-containing materials, intended for zinc smelting purposes.

Chemical Composition Requirements
Based on the ZnO content, zinc oxide concentrates are categorized as ZnO50, ZnO60, or ZnO70.

For example, the chemical composition requirements for ZnO50 are as follows:
ComponentMaximum Content (%)
ZnO≥50
Fe≤10
F≤1.0
Cl≤8
Cd≤0.25
Hg≤0.06
As≤0.6

Additional Notes

Imported COMPOUNDS OF ZINC OXIDE must comply with China Customs regulations and environmental protection standards for waste imports and metallic raw materials.

Specific requirements can be negotiated based on client needs to ensure the product meets the technical and environmental standards of zinc smelting enterprises.
